'''Mandatory overtime''' saves employers the expense of finding and training new employees when more work is needed. They simply require the men they already employ to work beyond the normal 40-hour week. Paying them time and a half is cheaper than recruiting new employees.
In America, women are exempt from this practice. They cannot be made to work overtime. But if the [[Equal Rights Amendment]] were passed, they would obviously lose this benefit.
