:Irrelevant. At no point was the crime portrayed by the prosecution as a hate crime and the men were never convicted of any hate crime. The only people who called this a hate crime were pro-gay activists who were more concerned with promoting their agenda and forcing their views upon the public than with the facts of the case or even with Mr. Shepard's life.
