The Molly Maguires were an Irish network of mine workers in Pennsylvania around 1870 who fought against the ravages of abusive company practices.  To their detractors, the Molly Maguires included murderers and was a lawless gang that needed to be broken up.  To their supporters, the Molly Maguires were all that the Irish immigrants, who had fled the potato famine in Ireland, had to survive.

The powerful railroad and mining corporates infiltrated the Molly Maguires and brought allegations that caused many to be executed, some unfairly.  In recent decades the diligent efforts of some have caused pardons to be issued for some of the Molly Maguires who were triee, convicted and executed.
