Queen Lydia Liliuokalani was born on September 2, 1838 in Honolulu. She was the last monarch of the Hawaiian Islands. She attempted to restore power to the monarchy by drafting her own constitution. American and European subjects of the kingdom of Hawaii tried to subvert the constitution and organized to depose her. In 1898, Hawaii was annexed to the United States and Queen Liliuokalani was forced to give up her throne.
