==How "Quote Mining" works==
A quote is generally called a "mined" quote when various parts of the quote have been removed or shortened, to convey the opposite point originally intended by the original person who said the quote.
As an example, take this fictional quote:
"I personally find homosexuality disgusting, and I understand why so many people object to it. However, I also believe that we have no right to prohibit such a practice simply because of our disgust, as it poses no real threat to the country,"
If this quote were presented as follows:
"I personally find homosexuality disgusting, and I understand why so many people object to it,"
It would likely be called a quote mine, because it omits the fictional speaker's intended point.
