Note that if the mass of an object is increased, the increase in kinetic energy increases linearly; if the velocity of an object is increased, the increase in kinetic energy increases exponentially. E.g., doubling the mass of an object doubles its kinetic energy; doubling its velocity quadruples its kinetic energy.
