'''John William Strutt, 3rd Baron Rayleigh''' (November 12, 1842 – June 30, 1919) was a [[United Kingdom|British]] physicist, commonly referred to as '''Lord Rayleigh''' in scientific circles. He specialised in wave theory and discovered the phenomenon now known as Rayleigh scattering and predicted the existence of surface waves that are known as Rayleigh waves. In collaboration with William Ramsay he discovered the element [[argon]], which led to him being awarded [[Nobel Prize]] for Physics in 1904.
