not a "cartoon" in the ordinary sense
'''Grave of the Fireflies''' is an animated film directed by Isao Takahata, a colleague of [[Hayao Miyazaki]]. The film somberly depicts the aftermath of the US firebombing of [[Kobe]], Japan by focusing on the plight of a homeless teenager and his little sister. Although its pacing is similar to [[My Neighbor Totoro]], its plot is much more serious. [[Roger Ebert]] called it "the most realistic animated film I've ever seen".
