Elrond is one of the [[Elf (Middle-earth)|Half-elven]], son of Eärendil and Elwing. He chose a life as an Elf, whereas his brother Elros chose life as a mortal Man. Elrond founded the Elven settlement [[Rivendell]] in the Second Age, and became its Lord and Master. He fought in the War o the Last Alliance under the command of Gil-galad, who gave him the Ring [[Vilya]] for safekeeping. Elrond married Galadriel's daughter Celebrían at the beginning of the Third Age, with whom he fathered the twin sons Elladan and Elrohir, and the daughter [[Arwen]].
In Peter Jackson's film adaptations of ''Lord of the Rings'', Elrond is played by Hugo Weaving.
