I think it's important for everyone on a wiki to understand why changes were made (especially new users like me), and when there is a conflict of what the sysop understands, from what teh writer intended, it's helpful to the new writer to have a chance to correct it. Then if it still fails to be accurate or have the correct tone, the sysop should say "you had your chance". I just think that it's helpful to learn by explanation, not just arbitrary "deleted for liberal bias".
