The '''''palantíri''''' or ''Seeing Stones'' were a means of communication created by the Elves. They were perfectly ball-shaped, black in colour, and looked like made from crystal or glass. Their size could range from only a foor in diameter to very lage ones that could not be carried. By looking into a ''palantír'' one could see faraway places, and "talk" to other people using another of the ''palantíri''.

These were put in the tower of Elostirion in the [[Emyn Beraid|Tower Hills]], the Tower of [[Amon Sûl]], the cities [[Annúminas]], [[Osgiliath]], [[Minas Ithil]], [[Minas Anor]], and the tower [[Orthanc]].
