In 1966, while still in law school, Biden married Neilia Hunter. They had three children together: Joseph R. "Beau" Dien, III, Robert Hunter, and Naomi. Shortly after his election to Senate in 1972, his wife and infant daughter were killed in a car accident, and his two sons were seriously injured. He eventually remarried to Dr. Jill Biden, the former Jill Jacobs, an educator in Delaware's schools. She currently is a professor an instructor<ref>http://www.dtcc.edu/catalog/pdf/personnel.pdf</ref> teaching at Delaware Technical Community College.
