Nick Hengeveld created Bible Gateway in [[1993]] at [[Calvin College]]. Subsequently, in [[1995]], Bible Gateway fell under the management of Gospel.com after Hengeveld moved it there and became their webmaster. Programming for the Bible Gateway is in Perl.
The site continues to expand its coverage by acquiring the rights to English and other language versions of [[Holy Bible|The Holy Bible]]. Among the rights acquired are those from the [[International Bible Society]] and [[The Lockman Foundation]].
