Under Palin's administration as mayor of Wasilla, victims of sexual assault were made to pay for their own rape-test kits at a cost of $300-$1200 apiece if their insurance companies did not. While Palin did not initiate this policy, it was supported by her administration until a state law passed in 2000 barred municipalities from charging victims the cost of tests to collect evidence of the crime.
