'''Plantagenet''' refers to that dynasty of the Kings of England that ruled from the accession of [[Henry II]] in 1154 to the death of [[Richard III]] in 1485. The name was coined in the 15th century. It began as a nickname for Henry’s father, Geoffrey the Fair (1113-1151), Count of [[Anjou]] who is reputed to have worn a sprig of broom (“''genet''”) in his hat. The dynasty is also referred to as [[Angevan]] from the city of [[Angers]], Geoffrey’s capital in [[Anjou]].
