Kombato is organization that develops solutions for violence. Inicially it was created for military pourposes, in special to brazilian Nay, but after some years the solutions went to brazilian martial arts studios. Kombato is on self defense and security, but spreads for many ways, including firearms training, knife fighting training, anti-kidnapping techniqies and so on.
The martial art was created around 1989, by a team led by Paulo Albuquerque. Many people helped the development of the system. It utilizes a combination of kicks, punchs, grappling, jointlocks, but it´s focused on the survival side. It is taught at Brazilian Marines, Airforce, several state and federal law enforcement offices, and some commercial companies, as the major television group in South America, Rede Globo de Televisão.
The system is used by bodyguards in Brazil to protect celebrities, basically from TV and political figures and there is a Kombato training program adapted for civilians. The main aim of the system is to build people's awareness of their own security, by making them able to recognize and neutralize aggressive threats. The system teaches armed and unarmed combat moves, both standing and on the ground, including anti-grappling moves. Master Paulo Albuquerque, The founder (Soke) is open to experimenting new moves, which must be reality-checked by the instructor team, then checked on the military forces, then in the police - and After that the moves are taught to students.
The graduation system is similar to other martial arts. The students starts at the white band, and progresses through green (I, II, III), red (I, II), brown (I), and black.
There´s no special philosophy except that even respecting the Asian martial arts, the Kombato practitioner (know and Kombatente or Kombatent), he never beds to photographs on the wall or other cult ways of doing things.
