Yes, it's depressing, but my conscience tells me that it must be so - I can't lie to myself and believe in heaven or a soul. If Christians are right (out of the countless religions on Earth, if Christianity turns out to be the correct religion) then I'm sure an all-forgiving, benevolent God will see that I've led a life free of major sins and have always striven to do what I believe to be right. Given the definition of a soul from the initial question on this page, I would say no. Atheists do not believe in a God given soul. However if we expand the definition to include any kind of spiritual/non-material component to the body then I think you will find more variance to the answer. As for the above comments, I would have to say that I agree with LibAsCanBe, if God does exist and he is a loving and forgiving God as stated by the majority of the Christian faiths, being an atheist (or any religion) will not matter as long as you have lived a moral life. --[[User:ScottA|ScottA]] 20:44, 24 September 2008 (EDT)
