The basis of atheist ideology, in most cases, is the concept that an idea must be proven or validated before it ought to be accepted. Supernatural claims, by definition, cannot be validated, and thus atheist do not believe them. There are varieties of atheist: some, called "weak atheists," do not believe in the supernatural becase they lack proof, while others, called "strong atheists," do not believe in the supernatural becase they claim it to be impossible.
