The Gaza Strip is a narrow coastal strip of land that runs along the Mediterranean Sea. It takes its name from Gaza the main city that has about 1.4 million residents who are all Palestinians in an area of 360 km. The Gaza Strip was a part of Israel by international community but the Israeli government disputes this and liquidated its settlement in the strip in 2005. Israel controls the Gaza strip’s airspace and offshore maritime access but the strip itself is controlled by the Palestinian Authority.
