In the past, the party has been traditional a [[liberal|left of center]] party with power in vote rich [[Ontario]] and [[Québec]], and has been known as "Canada's Governing Party" because of the large number of elections they have won, however the party has been rocked by a sponsorship scandal in Québec of late, and their popularity has not returned.  The Liberals have not been as popular in western Canada, where voters have voted for the [[Conservative Party of Canada|Conservatives]].
