All scientists throughout the ages have worked under the assumption that there subjects of study have been controlled by natural and consistent laws.{{fact}}<!-- this needs to be clarified; not all scientists of all time have worked under this assumption, and not all scientists have assumed *natural* laws--> Naturalism is therefore seen as a prerequisite for logical deduction to act on the observations made. Without the assumption that the universe is consistent we cannot apply the lessons drawn from an observation to any area other than the observatiopns themselves. If a [[chemical reaction]] occurs in a given solution in a lab in one city it is assumed that the same reaction can occur in a different lab in a different city on a different day because the chemical [[solution]] and situations will be the same, if a supernatural force were to enter the equation they could not be controlled for and could not be studied. By being supernatural a subject puts itself beyond the reach of science.
