Malcolm did not fight in [[World War II]] because he was found to be mentally incompetent to serve.  Malcolm began to sell and use [[drugs]], turned to [[burglary]] and, in 1946, was sentenced to a term of ten years of prison on charges of burglary. While in [[prison]] he was converted to the [[Nation of Islam]], as directed by [[Elijah Muhammad]], and quickly learned the [[Koran]].

Kennedy]] a case "of the chicken that came to the house to roost," he was suspended from the black Muslim movement.
