::and I would add the B-29 and the Zero. The line doesn't quite work. [[User:RJJensen|RJJensen]] 20:14, 19 October 2008 (EDT)
OK, now that that's settled, what exactly is meant by "most powerful fighter plane of the U.S. Air Force in the war"? The P-47 had more firepower and a more powerful engine.--[[User:Frey|Frey]] 22:36, 20 October 2008 (EDT)
:The P 47 was a dual role aircraft though, and excelled at ground attack missions. The P51 was a far superior air to air fighter. Additionally, the P47 was incapable of long range escort missions for bombing raids over Germany without the aid of external fuel tanks. The P 51 was the pinnacle of aircraft technology at the time aside from a handful of experimental and mostly failed German air experiments. [[User:QWest|QWest]] 22:44, 20 October 2008 (EDT)
