3. Your thoughts on the progressive movement, please.  

The progressive movement was a good thing for America. Many things were getting out of hand and the government had to interfere before it would get too much. This was one of the first times that it was a good thing that the government became involved with the country’s dilemmas. The progressive movement helped banish child labor, the monopolizing of businesses, and the direct elections of the U.S. Senate. Prohibition was good in some ways and bad in other ways. Alcohol is a social evil and is in many cases a cause of abuse or divorce between marriages but on the other hand the people who were addicted to it who have a hard time stopping and would be tempted to break the law by drinking illegal alcohol. There would be more people in jail because of it.

This political cartoon depicts Woodrow Wilson about to throw a savage child, which symbolizes the Philippines, off the cliff was published in 1898. Wilson had the chose either to let the Philippines stay in America or send them back to Spain. On the left side the world looks on and does not interfere. The world was impatient with how long Wilson took to decide which shows that it was an important decision. The cartoonist did not seem to be thinking about independence for all.
