There's an argument to be made for Aquinas and the Whig theory of consent of the governed [http://religionandliberty.blogspot.com/2005/09/aquinasfirst-whig-novaks-catholic-whig.html see for details] but that has nothing to do with libertarianism, so I'm dropping the reference.
