Opening the Sri Lankan order alongside Upul Tharanga and Michael Vandort. His tactic of hitting the ball to the boundary in a hyper-aggressive opening to an innings has led to some momentous and memorable scores such as 340 against India in 1997, and was named one of the players of the tournament in the 1996 [[Cricket World Cup]]. His notable bowling style helps to reduce the amount of pressure on [[Muttiah Muralitharan]] and [[Chaminda Vaas]].
