Partridge is portrayed as insensitive and deliberately rude to virtually everybody, including his wife and the guests on his programmed. Consequently, he has few friends at the BBC, has been kicked out of his house by his wife (and now lives at a "Travel Tavern", referred to once as a layby) and is given the graveyard shift on radio.
