Sargon continued the policies of relocating conquered peoples across the Assyrian Empire just as [[Tiglath-Pileser III]] had done.  An inscription from Sargon at the time of the fall of Samaria boasts of carrying off 27,290 inhabitations "as booty"<ref>The NIV Study Bible (1985), Zondervan Press, pg. 556</ref>
