After news broke that over 90% of Long Island Rail Road employees were collecting disability payments, the Long Island Rail Road president, Helena Williams, began investigating the agency responsible for making payments. Upon trying to attend a meeting of the RBR, she found out that they had not met in two years. The board grants nearly all applications for disability, around 98%, though this does not imply that 98% of retired employees collect disability benefits. Many other allegations of corruption have been aimed at the RBR, as it has no real oversight (the three board members are Presidential appointees).
