'''Apocalyptica''' is a [[cello]] [[metal]] band from [[Finland]]. They formed in 1993 when four classically trained cellists attending the Sibelius Academy of Music decided to form an ensemble dedicated to covering [[Metallica]] songs. After getting signed to Zen Garden Records after a performance, Apocalyptica began to write original music of their own on top of their covers of classic [[rock]] music. Their discography maps a gradual shift from acoustic cello cover music to more fully formed metal songs featuring cellos. As of 2005, they have a full time drummer as the three remaining cellists from the original quartet.
