In 1370, he became leader of his tribe and began a campaign of conquest which lasted for the next 35 years. From 1380 to 1389 he conquered [[Iran]], Mesopotamia(now [[Iraq]]), [[Armenia]], and [[Georgia]], killing hundreds of thousands of people. In 1389 he invaded [[India]]. His army captured [[Delhi]] and Tamerlane ordered the execution of one hundred thousand captured Indian soldiers. In 1402 he defeated the [[Ottoman]] [[Sultan]] [[Bayezid I]].
