In my opinion, the election of Barack Obama on Tuesday, 2008 was most similar to the election of James Polk in 1844. This is because Polk was a “dark horse,” meaning that he did not express his views on certain policies. This is similar to Obama’s campaign, because Obama has not said much of what he wants to do as president.

:Interesting!  However, that is not quite what a "dark horse" is.  A "dark horse" is someone whose nomination is a last-minute, complete surprise, like a  big underdog shocking everyone by winning a horse race.
