While Caroline Kennedy was a strong early choice to be appointed, her "campaign" fell apart during her interviews, when many average citizens saw that Caroline Kennedy may not have been as sharp as she was put out to be.  It is also widely suspected that Caroline Kennedy would not even been in the question if she wasn't a Kennedy.
