This definition is wrong or incomplete, because the classic (arbitrary, meaningless) simple machines are all machines which do not store energy. Therefore both the output power and output work equal the input power and input work; they change only the force and distance. The classic list of simple machines does not include devices like the hammer or the bow-and-arrow, because they store energy (and thus have relationships between input force and output force that are almost impossible to calculate).
