'''Nectanebo II''' was a [[Pharaoh]] of the 30th Dynasty. He was the last native Egyptian Pharaoh to rule over a united Egypt, and ruled for a period of 17 years from 360 to 343 BC. His rule was brought forcefully to an end by a [[Persian]] invasion, which he escaped by taking flight southward into Nubia.

His son survived, and remained in [[Egypt]], where he became a high ranking official in the regime of [[Ptolemy I]].

Necanebo’s unused sarcophagus, a massive finely worked piece in dark granite, was discovered being used as a water cistern in Alexandria, and now resides in the [[British Museum]].
