A '''dialog box''' is a small window giving a notice to a software user, and generally offering to take some action or another. It is called a ''dialog'' because the programmer imagines that a [[dialog]] will take place with the user, but "experience shows that the more words you put on that dialog box, the fewer people will actually read it."
