At that point it becomes estuarine in character, several miles broad, flowing past (on the south bank) the canal port of Ellesmere Port, Bebington, [[Birkenhead]] and Wallasey, and (on the north bank) [[Liverpool]] and [[Bootle]]. Here there are major docks.
