For all those of you out there who are biblical literalists. How do you explain away the various discrepancies between what is written in the bible and what has been documented to have happened on earth? For example, how does one explain the great flood that clearly didn't happen? Or explain away the existence of an ARC that we, today, could not create (I mean you could build it but it wouldn't stay together in a class six Beaufort storm not to mention the kind of conditions required to flood the entire world). A wooden boat of that size would either sink, flood or fall apart depending on how one built it (there is no optimal design here, run it through auto cad and stress testing software if you don't believe me). If the bible is not literally true, then, why believe anything written? I mean if it is the only source for various things that Christians believe while the times when it is not the only source it is generally proven incorrect, then why trust it when it is the sole source? I can understand using it as a guideline to direct "morale' behavior but taking the bible literally is just silly.
