The '''Celts''' were a people who lived in [[Europe]] at the time of the [[Roman Empire]].  Originally Celts were in many places including modern [[France]], modern [[Spain]] and the whole of the [[British Isles]].  Today Celtic populations still survive.  Important places in Mainland Europe where there are Celtic populations are [[Britany]] (Bretagne) in France and the [[Basque]] region which straddles the border between France and Spain.  In the British Isles Major Celtic populations exist in [[Ireland]] (especially southern Ireland), [[Wales]], [[Scotland]] and the [[Peninsula]] in the West of England where there are the counties of [[Devon]] and [[Cornwall]].  After the Roman Empire [[England]] was invaded successively by [[Anglo Saxons]], [[Vikings]], and [[Normans]].  Outside Western England the English people are no longer Celtic.
