== Reasons for Abortions ==
Some countries only allow abortions under certain circumstances. The first two reasons are generally grounds for an abortion even in countries with restrictive abortion laws, and the third, though controversial, is also rather common. Below are some common reasons women have abortions:
- The child being the result of [[rape]] or [[incest]].
- Risk to the mother's health or life
- The child being born severely disabled, which may be criticised as a form of [[eugenics]]
- Inability to care for the child, in which case [[adoption]] poses a better alternative
