4. Pick another revolution and describe it: In 1791 an African priest sparked an uprising of 100,000 slaves led by Toussaint L’Ouverture, which started the Haitian Revolution. The French troops arrived in 1802 with hopes to abolish the revolution, and succeeded. They tricked L’Ouverture onto a ship leading him to believe he would be signing a peace treaty granting the colony independence from France but instead was taken captive and was thrown into a French prison where he died a year later. Later on Dessalines, a general under L’Ouverture continued the fight for freedom which L’Ouverture had begun, and in 1804 Haiti was granted its independence.

The Napoleonic Code is a French civil code established in 1804. The Code was a successful system of laws that strongly influenced the laws of many other countries. Many view this code as being one of the few documents which have influenced the whole world.
