John Quincy Adams (1767–1848), considered by many to be one of the greatest American Presidents, served one uneventful term as President of the United States (1825–1829) and then returned to Congress where he spent the rest of his life attempting to end slavery.  He was the son U.S. President [[John Adams]] and [[Abigail Adams]].  John Quincy Adams also served as the Secretary of State  under President [[James Monroe]], helping to formulate the [[Monroe Doctrine]].
