The light is trapped in a powerful magnetic field, and the trapped energy beam can slice through nearly any type of armor.

A '''Lightsaber''' is a fictional science fiction weapon from the ''[[Star Wars]]'' films. It consists, in the Star Wars universe, of a powerful beam of energy emitted from a cylinder-shaped handle. According to canon, the weapon emits a beam of intense light almost a meter in length and the diameter of an average human male's thumb. it emits no heat, but can cut through any kind of matter -with the exception of another lightsaber. In the hands of a skilled user, the beam can deflect blaster bolts and absorb Force weapons such as Sith lightning.

 

Other versions vary in style and usage. Dual-bladed lightstaffs, tonfa-styled, and other variations are seen and referenced in the Star Wars universe.
