To sum up:
#We want to present the precise relationship between Canada and any other country such as Great Britain which had (partial) sovereignty over it.
#Then we want to pick a term that denotes that relationship. (I personally am unsure whether "[[colony]]" will be that term.
Didn't most of the [[British Empire]] dissolve (or loosen) into a sort of [[commonwealth]] sometime during the period 1850 to 1960? I daresay the current flags of many of these former parts of the empire incorporate the [[Union Jack]] in their design.
