:Sure, an observer might do that. But in the context of a discussion or argument, no direct participant can issue a simple accusation of last-wordism without the accusation itself being last-wordism. An accusation of last-wordism is not itself an argument of substance, so is fair game to be labelled last-wordism itself. (Here I am assuming that a considered response during a discussion, despite being delivered most-recently and thus technically the "last word", shouldn't be eligible to be labelled last-wordism. "Last-wordism" as a label should be reserved for comments that are spoken last, usually with zero or little unique contribution to the argument, uttered solely for the (flawed strategic) purpose of ''being last'' and not contributing usefully to the dialogue.) Maybe it's not totally accurate to call it a paradox, but it's at least ironic, and kind of funny.
