In 1995, he suffered a severe spinal injury after a fall while riding a horse. He was left a [[quadriplegic]]. He then became an outspoken supporter of disabled people, and even supported [[embryonic stem cell research]]. Sadly, he died in 2004 at the young age of 52, from a bedsore that became badly infected.
