A couplet is two lines of poetic verse that present a single concept or idea. The lines usually rhyme and have the same meter. A good example is the following conclusion to a sonnet by Edna St. Vincent Millay:
{{cquote|Whether or not we find what we are seeking <br> is idle, biologically speaking.}}
A ''heroic couplet'' is a couplet with iambic pentameter.
