Thatcher's privatisation of the major industries lead to mass unemployment. The people were told "unemployment is a price worth paying for a stable economy". Of course, the thousands of ex steel-workers who could no longer put food on the table for their children didn't agree. Thatcher's plan to reduce the "dependancy culture" was to cut benefits. As any sensible person can see, making thousands of people unemployed, and then cutting their benefits, is not a nice idea. Still, to be nice you require a beating heart, therefore we'll let her off...
