The 4th International was a communist organization founded in 1938 by [[Leon Trotsky]]. Its goal was to eliminate the bourgeoisie and establish a dictatorship of proletariats. The Fourth International was prosecuted by the Soviet Union's secret police, who assassinated Trotsky himself in 1940. The movement has had many splits and schisms. Only a few fragments survived the 1980s.
