Rush made national headlines when he was asked to write 400 words for a newspaper column about Obama's plans.  He said he didn't need 400 words, he needed just four courageous words: "I hope he fails." He immediately came under attack as an unpatriotic obstructionist by both Democrats and Left wing Republicans. This has proved to be a Godsend for the Republican party as it allows them to separate true Republicans buying into conservative principals and those who would tarnish the purity of Republican policies. Rush explained that what he meant was, if Obama is for socialist policies and against capitalist policies, of course he could not support those policies.
